Indian Wells Post-Script
This e-mail is worthy of it's own post here, because I hear the same thing many times as people start discovering Rafa. But Mary just highlights that if you catch Rafa at the right time, he is very approachable and very fan-friendly. It's a bit easier here in the USA than it is in Europe.
Thanks for sharing your experience, Mary. Perhaps I'll see you at IW next year. :D

Hello Susan,
I just wanted to say thank you. Thank you so much for all the information you provide us Rafa Fans. I've recently become a fan after watching him at the Pacific Life Open. I'm embarrassed to admit that before then, I didn't know who Rafael Nadal was. My husband was given tickets to the event for the day of Wednesday, March 15th. We arrived just in time to watch the match between Nadal vs. Grojean. As we watched the match, I was amazed with Nadal's performance, such intensity, what an incredible athlete. Plus he's gorgeous (I'm way older then he and think it's just fine to think he's such a hottie)! As luck would have it, I came face to face with Rafael the evening he lost against Blake. There I was standing in a parking lot, just me and Rafael (who had just left a restaurant with another person). I wanted so much to say something nice, something great, but no, all I could say was "can I have your autograph, please?" How original is that! I was expecting him to say "no" and I would've understand, since he just lost a match, he seemed pretty down. But no, he graciously turned around and signed the little business card I had handed to him, then waved goodbye. I was so grateful. Ever since that evening, I've been online often, researching Rafa's career. I'm so glad I didn't know how famous he was/is. I never would have approached him had I known that. And he deserves every bit of it. He's so humble and so modest and every bit a champion. So again, thank you for keeping us informed. I look forward to reading your blogs, following his career and I believe it will be a long and successful career.
Thank you for your time,
Mary

What a great history =)
I admire him even more when I read things like that...
I would love meet him someday in somewhere, but I think that would be a little bit difficult =(
Thanks Susan for sharing this with us!

Thanks for sharing that story!
I had a good experience meeting Rafa in Montreal at the Rogers Cup. He had played first-round singles and doubles that day (won both) -- in 90 degree weather -- and as luck would have it, he was leaving the stadium the same time as I was. He stopped to sign some autographs, then turned away to get into his car. I got up my courage and said "Photo? I saw his hesitation -- poor guy must have been exhausted and it was after 11 pm. But when I added "por favor", he graciously turned around and posed with me. What a sweetheart you are Rafa!
