Friday: Pre-Game Show
As you know from yesterday's blog, Lopy and I are concerned that Rafa cannot play on that right ankle. No word yet, but Rafa hasn't booked a practice court. If he is going to play, he should show up pretty soon, and if I hear he's around I'll let you know.
Vamos, Rafa!!!
Just got back from his practice. Well, I had a snack with Claire and Sarah in the cafeteria before coming back up here. Elena Dementieva was at the next table; she is very happy about beating Justine.
As for Rafa, his ankle wasn't taped that we could tell, and he seemed to be practicing normally. He was frustrated with a few of his forehands, but he had a routine warm-up practice session with Francis Roig. The weather is cooling down a lot, and it was a bit windy. Hopefully the win will die down. The Bryans are playing now, and they won the first set. Rafa's match will be after that.
I'll do my blog, but I may have to sit inside again. It'll be chilly on the balcony.
As for other action today, I saw Blake beat Andreev. Blake is playing very well, but Andreev seemed to be struggling today. Blake is looking very confident, though, and now he's a Top 10 player.

Oh Susan,
What bad news it would be ! :-(
i sincerely hope you are wrong in this case Susan as it wld mean he is more injured than we thought !
But i'm sure Rafa will make the right decision and we'll support him whatever he decides
Vamos Rafa por fa !!
Lucie
Thanks for updating us Susan and we will all keep our fingers crossed!!!!
C'mon Rafa, you can do it!!
If Rafael has an ankle sprain he could have made it worse by playing the second set Wednesday. There is still almost 4 hours before the match however if he didn't practice yesterday and does not practice in the next hours, it probably is not likely he would go out to play what will be a hard match against Bag, not to mention what will be a hard match tomorrow. Better to wait until next week in Miami to start practicing. It would be a shame to see Bag get a free walk-over to the semi though.
Let's also hope The Tennis Channel somehow picks up coverage of the two semi-s tomorrow Saturday since ESPN2 is evidently not transmitting them live in the USA.
Oh no. Just hope it isn't serious even if he does pull out.
Thanks for the update!
¿¿¿¿¿¿¿ QUÉ ???????
On what exactly are you basing your speculation, Susan & Uncle Lopy? Was he limping heavily last night?
Hope Rafa gets better :,(
Laura ^_^
We were basing it on what he said to us. He didn't seem to be limping, but that doesn't mean he can run around on it during a difficult match. He still is not on the premises here yet. But nothing has been announced.
Is there a requirement for players to practice during these Masters tournaments at the tournament site? Has anyone seen Federer practicing?
There are tennis clubs and private estates all over the area of Indian Wells and Rancho Mirage to the west. It's a very wealthy area. Is it possible Rafa is out practicing as a guest of someone somewhere with his team? Could he even be practicing with Rogelio, odd as that might seem in a tournament?
Seems like there would have been an announcement by now if he were not to be playing this evening.
He's been practicing here all week, but yes, he could practice elsewhere. But if he practices here, he will be practicing under the conditions at this venue, and on courts that are designed to play at the same pace as the stadium courts.
I do agree it's odd that there has been no announcement if he knows he cannot play. So it could be fine.
GOOD NEWS!!!! He is here, and about to practice. I'll check out the situation with his ankle and be right back.
yea...i was there when he twisted his ankle also. it did not look that bad. i think he will be fine. i really look forward to this match tonite against marcos. very intense this match should be. oh yeah..i also saw fernando verdasco a friend of rafa's and oh boy is he cuute! and really niice. i spoke with him and he played dubs with a friend of mine. :)
