Sunday: Rafa's Post-Match Interview

He starts by saying hello.

He cannot win tournament playing like this. Must play much better. Very windy. Very difficult to play in the wind. First match is always difficult. Important he won, because he can improve as tournament goes on.

Asking about Roger and the potential rivalry. He says always the same. He’s the best player in the world, best in history. Rafa needs to improve other things. Doesn’t know if he has mental edge against Roger. Doesn’t want to speak about it. Doesn’t like to compare.

Needs to improve his serve, little bit more. Needs to improve the forehand winner – (now that’s a scary thought). Needs to continue to practice and improve.

Injury doesn’t bother him now. He doesn’t think about it anymore. Doesn’t have pain. Has some exercises he does, nothing special (so cute how he says special).

Too far to look ahead to Wimbledon. He wants to play good on grass. He likes playing on grass. He’s going to play Queen’s. and will stay in London for one week before Wimbledon to train. Trying to get the best preparation for playing on grass.

Court is okay here. He can play good on them. The balls are okay. It was the wind that was difficult today.

And he ends with “Thank you very much.”

And I stepped in front of a camera that was filming, so I’m in trouble with a cameraman, even though I apologized. :-(

Just went down to get some lunch. Was in the salad line behind Flavia Pennetta. Shed really is very attractive. As I was checking out, Rafa came in. He's in there having lunch now. He's wearing a white track suit.

I'm going to be leaving the venue soon, as I have to do work for my "real" job. And it will be easier to work at the hotel. I'm pleased Rafa won today. It was a tough match for him, but I think the wind was a real factor. I wonder if he'll play doubles tomorrow????

You are NOT going to believe this. Peter Bodo has the desk right next to me, on my left. We'll be sitting together all week. *roflmao*

I told Peter your suggestion, Mary, and he just laughed. I think it's going to be interesting sittig next to him all week. I did my good deed today by helping him get his wireless connection working. I may regret that later. *rofl*

Show up early tomorrow and leave a big jug of Kool-aid on Peter's desk :-)

Ha ha at Mary and Carly's suggestions.

It would be hilarious if you were sipping some Kool-Aid as commenting to Peter that it was your favorite drink, as he seems to like to point out.

Thanks for reporting on Rafa's interview.

*lol* Carly. Actually, he's been quite nice. When he first got there and introduced himself, I said who I was, and we both kind of laughed. I pointed to my diet coke and said, "I'm here with my Kool-Aid."

But you are right -- I need to get some kind of Kool-Aid souvenir to give him. ;-)

Oh, and I gave him a Vamos Rafael wristband, and he put it right on. I should have gotten a photo of that. *rofl*

I don't know, veyonce. He told me that he was going to make sure I wasn't looking over his shoulder at his blog this week.

As I said, he's been very nice, and he's introduced me to some of the other guys around us. I know some of them, but I don't do this full-time.

Lesley, I didn't get a recent e-mail. I wish you were here, too. *hug* Sorry Carlos lost; I couldn't stay for the match, as I have some work to do between now and tomorrow afternoon. And I'm so sorry he's out of the tournament now.

Maybe Cincy 2006????

SUSAN,

YOURE ALWAYS THE BEST!

I GUESS THAT HE REALLY NEEDS TO IMPROVE IN A LOT MORE OF HIS FIRST SERVES, PLUS MORE TOPSPIN ON HIS FOREHAND WHICH IS REALLY HIS BEST WEAPON. THE BACKHAND DEFINITELY NEEDS A LOT OF IMPROVEMENT. RAFA'S GREAT BUT FROM WHAT WE SAW IN DUBAI HE ACTUALLY NEEDS TO BE MORE AGGRESSIVE ON THE NET AND VOLLEYS ESPECIALLY ON THE HARDCOURTS.

BUT HE IS FEARLESS THOUGH AND HE WORKS HARD ON THINGS FOR IMPROVEMENTS.

GIVE OUR LOVE HIM SUSAN. MUCHO RAFAEL!

YOU KEEP WELL ! LOL!

Poor Susan, Peter Bodo next to you. Act like "peeping thomas" and tell us what he is going to write about RAFA. Well, I agree on what has been said, he can't win the tournament playing as he played yesterday. But maybe it was his first match, and I've noticed that he always has to face troubles in the first round of each tournament. He has to adapt to the surface, the weather conditions, the jet-lag, etc. I think he'll play much better aginst Fish. As we said in the thread Rafa vs. Fish, isn't fishing one of his favourite hobbies??? ah ah ah
He has to improve that damn serve, though. This is a crucial point for me, especially when he plays on hardcourts. But yesterday it was very windy, and we understood he doesn't like playing when it's windy. That affected his game a lot. Ciao. PAT.

Ciao Susan,
thank u for your work. Is it possi-
ble to have full transcripts of the post-matches interviews on the site like before? Also I was surprised Rafa shouted "cono"(ass-
hole in Spanish)to himself and bit
his nails after some misses. Never
saw him so nervous!

Give our friend a kick under the desk from me Susan ;)

Ah..."special"...Rafa should be made to say that in every interview, that's the second time he's made me melt with that word *lol*

Muchas gracias - hope you guys are having a wonderful time! :)
