Just one more day . . .

And Lopaka and I will hit Indian Wells. Rafa is probably running for cover now. ;-)

Some news from California. There's a cold front going through, and it's supposed to hit here later tonight. So it's going to be uncharacteristically cold at IW, at least for the first few days. And there is an 80% chance of rain for Saturday, which is very unusual, but which should produce snow in the surrounding mountains. In the 5 or 6 years I've been going to IW, there was only one rain delay that I remember, and one delay for a sandstorm.

Weather Info

Tomorrow's high is supposed to be 59 degrees. After that, the weather improves, but we probably are going to have some very cool evenings. The evenings tend to be cool even when the days are hotter than Hades. And this will be my first trip when it hasn't been hotter than Hades most of the time. In 2004, it was so hot I actually left Rafa's match coz I couldn't stand the heat. But on the positive side, maybe I won't have to actually wear shorts next week. ;-)

I thought Rafa wouldn't play before Sunday, but if he's scheduled tomorrow I'll somehow get my tired butt down to IW (I've been working a lot lately!). But if he plays, I hope it won't be until the evening. I still plan to get there on Saturday, but I don't want to rush.

Rafa's draw looks decent to start. He will play either Robin Vik or Jan Hernych in the second round (he has a first round bye). In prior years I've been able to see him play doubles, which was an added bonus, but it's best that he concentrate on singles. It's so great to have him back on court. The last time I saw him live was in Shanghai, where he didn't get to play. I hope this is a very different experience for both of us.

I'm looking forward to meeting Uncle Lopy tomorrow or Sunday. It's always fun to meet someone after having so much cyber-contact. I wish him a safe trip from Hawaii. Until tomorrow . . .
